tokyo: day 3

this day was all yokohama. it is a city in and of itself.

yokohama is on the water and can be seen from many parts of tokyo. we saw this huge ferris wheel while on the ferry ride the day before, it will come up later.

this huge sculpture appears to have been designed by a roller coaster designer.

we went to the yokohama museum of art which was pretty good. didn't go to the special exhibits, but everything else was nice. dismembered elephant heads.

this huge pit i believe was used for building ships.

we took a rest down near the waterfall.

this is from the same spot looking up at the building which comes all the way down this far. i guess we're at about the 3rd basement level.

it was nice to see sanitary device in public restroom, considering most of the stalls have the typical 'time to squat over the hole in the floor' eastern style toilet. which at times were disturbingly unsanitary in conjunction with rarely having soap to wash your hands with.

walked through a little amusement park as it was beginning to get dark.

it's 7:15, time to ride the ferris wheel.

i didn't bother to tell them that i was a afraid of heights until after we got in the carriage. everyone seemed so excited and i didn't want to disappoint them. it's dark, but here's the first shot of me trying not to lose it, sitting as close to the center of the carriage (without being on the floor), barely looking out and definitely not looking down. we're only about a 1/4 way around.

some shots of the little amusement park that we walked through in action.

the large building on the left is the one with the waterfall in it's basement. i think this is about the top of the ferris wheel.

coming down now. the ferris wheel was equal in height with that large white building.

almost finished. we decided after to ride this roller coaster that plunges under water. we knew the coaster would be a short ride, needless to say we were disappointed with just how quick it was, especially at $7 a head.

inside were a few floors of arcade games. all were blaring music to the point of not being able to hear yourself think. i thought this claw vendor was quite the oxymoron.

who would have thought that the earth just likes to hangout in yokohama?

actually a large helium filled ball that you could pay a lot of money to watch some anime or something projected on it. no thanks, this view will work.

i don't think i ever fully captured the exact color in this sculpture.

it's hard to see, but a movie was being shot back on the left.

from the boardwalk.

this boardwalk was ridiculous, in a good way.

especially this part.

really large model ship to conclude the day.
