singapore: day 3

we didn't pre-book all of our nights in singapore at drop inn, as we hadn't decided if we'd go to malaysia for a few days or not.  when we chose to just stay in singapore the entire time there was no more vacancy for the remainder of our trip.  there was another hostel just down the street that was much bigger that had vacancy called hive.  i thought the atmosphere at drop inn was more homely and inviting, but hive wasn't bad.

after checking out and in, we made our way to the singapore art museum.
there was this nice little church behind the museum.
we made our way to china town since we had reservations at the chinese theatre circle for dinner and a show.  we were quite early so we decided to have a drink for my dad's 60th birthday which was that day.  i had a gigantic tiger beer and jules had peach tea.  now, the legal drinking age is 18 in singapore so jules could drink legally if she wanted, but she doesn't like beer so she missed out on some tasty tiger.

as for the chinese theatre circle, we reserved the vegetarian option for our meals and she definitely didn't like any of it.  that meant that i got two servings of everything.  it was in this tiny tea-house, tables lining the walls and probably a 6 by 8 foot stage.  what we thought was to be a brief introduction to chinese opera, turned out to be something like 45 minutes.  the performance itself lasted about 10-15 minutes.  i don't remember the name of the story, but it was an excerpt from a classical cantonese opera along the lines of romeo and juliet.

this was definitely a big highlight for each of us.  i suggest if you ever have a chance to see something like this do it.
