singapore: day 4

we decided to get out of the city for real so we took the subway, a bus and a bumboat to an island off the northeast coast called pulau ubin.
we were successful this time in renting bikes.  the only other option was your feet.
this is wei tuo fa gong temple.

this is the german girl shrine.  apparently the daughter of a coffee plantation manager on the island was running away from british troops during the first world war and fell to her death in a quarry.  they say she haunts the area and is now a taoist diety.
we made our way back to the hostel to freshen up.
we ended up in little india for dinner at madras new woodlands, an amazingly delicious vegetarian indian restaurant.  this was definitely the food highlight of singapore.
